008: Gamblor lives in Lake Charles, LA

008: Gamblor lives in Lake Charles, LA

December 31, 2010

By some strange means, I was en route to Louisiana. My parents decided to go on a random new years eve family gambling trip to Lake Charles, LA. Casino stops included Grand Casino Coushatta (until then, I had no idea Tribal Police existed) and L’Auberge Du Lac. I won about $40.

Who knew Star Trek slot machines even existed? Taken at L’Auberge Du Lac.

PS – catch the Simpsons reference?

007: Jungle Cafe

007: Jungle Cafe

December 30, 2010

My fav New Yorker foodie was in town! Melissa came back home to Houston for a couple weeks. Today’s adventure included Tex-Mex lunch at Lopez, dessert at Jungle Cafe and wandering Cost Plus World Market for beers and hot sauce that don’t exist in NYC.

Cappuccino dessert at Jungle Cafe in Houston, TX. Awkward depth of field.

006: X-ray

December 29, 2010

Mouth x-ray… COOL! What look like impacted wisdom teeth? Not cool. Finally started the wisdom teeth extraction process by going to the dentist/oral surgeon and getting and x-ray. I’m 22, this is bad!

005: Sprinkles Cupcakes

December 28, 2010

Gaby and I headed to Minuti Coffee to meet up with Katie for a late Christmas gift exchange.

Katie gave me the delicious gift of diabetes through half a dozen cupcakes from Sprinkles Cupcakes.

Vegan red velvet, banana, peppermint chocolate, lemon, pumpkin, black and white… omnomnomnom!

004: Fixed Nexus One

004: Fixed Nexus One

December 27, 2010

Dr. Cell Phone on Weslayan Street in Houston fixed my cracked Nexus One. Yay! Including parts/labor/tax the total ended up being $135. Kind of pricy but better than buying a brand new phone (or fearing that I’d get glass shards into my ears or hands.)

Dropped off my phone for repairs, had a lunch of falafel and hummus at Aladdin’s Mediterranean Cafe with Gaby, and within a few hours my Nexus One was back to normal.

I just wish I had Googled their Houston area locations a bit more thoroughly, apparently there is a Dr. Cell Phone in Sugar Land on Lexington near First Colony Mall. That would have saved me a driving trip into town.

001: In line for ham

December 24, 2010

I decided to start Project 365 up again to document my life, improve my photography skills and to get a head start on the usual January 1st beginning for Project 365 (which I’ve failed the past 2 or 3 years.)

Taken around 9:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, this was the line for Honeybaked Ham in First Colony. It wrapped around the shopping center.

My mom made me pick up a ham she’d reserved for dinner. It took about an hour and a half to get through the line. Irony = I’m a vegetarian. The cashier who rang me up got a laugh out of that.

Brett Thorne, fellow editor at The University Star, invited me to see his band play their album release show at Emo’s in Austin last night. So glad I finally got to see Zlam Dunk after hearing about them all the time… so much energy! My face = melted.

Fist pump

Hey I went to high school with that crowd surfer.

I DUNNO, GRADUATION LOL

With my undergraduate college career ending in less than a week, lot of people have been asking me, “Tina, what are you going to do after you graduate?”

Well, you’re all probably familiar with the I Dunno lol dog meme.

I decided to use Photoshop to create an appropriation combining the lol dog with me, my feelings towards graduation and plans for “grown up people life.”

Get off my back.

PS – a couple weeks ago I got this email from the professor who is in charge of reading out names at graduation: “You are receiving this email because I am unsure of the pronunciation of your first, middle and/or last name, and I want to make sure that I say your name correctly.”

Phuong Anh Tonnu Phan is complicated.
